Barcelona have identified two wingers as potential transfer targets should a deal for Marcus Rashford fall through. The La Liga frontrunners are keen to activate the £26million purchase option in his loan from Manchester United, but they're also considering other options if that move doesn't materialise.

Spanish outlet Marca has reported that Real Betis star Abde Ezzalzouli and Mallorca's Jan Virgili are being eyed by Barcelona bosses. Their report further states that Barcelona still own 20 per cent of Ezzalzouli's rights and half of Virgili's rights after selling him last summer for a mere €3.5million (£3m).

Despite the interest in the young pair, Rashford's permanent move to Barcelona still appears to be the most probable outcome, with Marca also suggesting that an agreement over his wages has already been reached between the player and the club. However, conflicting reports have emerged in England, claiming that no agreement on personal terms has been finalised yet.

Barcelona might reconsider their position on Rashford due to their ongoing financial woes and the fact that he isn't guaranteed a starting spot. As seen in recent weeks, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal are preferred to Rashford on the wings when both are fit.

Before a crucial Champions League match against Newcastle United on Tuesday evening, the Brazilian star was given a slight breather with Rashford starting in Saturday's 1-0 victory over Athletic Club. Other key players like Pedri and Robert Lewandowski were also rested.

Barcelona are hunting for a long-term successor to Lewandowski, which could further muddle their plans to sign Rashford due to the probable funds required for the centre-forward role.

The United loanee was given a chance in that position for the Copa Del Rey semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid, where Barca triumphed 3-0, but they were still knocked out after Diego Simeone's side won 4-0 in the first leg.

Rashford has had to accept a diminished role of late, but Hansi Flick has acknowledged he has reacted extremely well to this.

He stated in December 2025: "I try to speak to every player when they are not selected and the last time I checked with him he replied to me, 'Boss, you don't have to tell me about your decisions. The most important thing is the team. We have to win the three points. The rest is not that important.'".

"This is the perfect mentality. I am so happy to have him. When he is on the bench, he shows that we have a good and deep squad," he added.

"What I can say is that he is an absolutely professional player. In the beginning, he had to adapt a little bit, but now he is at his best level."

Barcelona and Rashford are in action on Tuesday evening as they take on Newcastle United in a Champions League last-16 first leg at St James' Park.
