A man has explained exactly what happens when a plane you're travelling on has to make an emergency landing, after his flight was greeted by emergency services upon lading.
Mosey, boarded a Thai Airways flight to Bangkok from Heathrow Airport on Thursday, March 5, with his partner Jess. But after being onboard for just under two hours, the pilot made a tannoy announcement to say they would need to divert to the nearest airport for an emergency landing, claiming there was a technical fault with one of the engines.
Mosey said: "We were at the time flying over Munich and he said we would be landing there in about 45 minutes. Half an hour later, he put another Tannoy out saying that we cannot land in Munich now, so we're going to Paris and we'd be landing in about an hour and a half.
"So an hour and a half later, we landed in Paris and then they could start investigating the fault."
Mosey shared a video he took from the plane after landing, which showed multiple emergency service vehicles on the runway with flashing lights.
He continued: "There was a few fire engines outside and stuff like that, and we then kept on the plane for about four or five hours. It was getting very late, a lot of tired people and then eventually they said they're going to be putting us into hotels so we knew we weren't going to be taken off again.
"It took us about two hours to get out of the airport because it was very busy and then it took us two hours to check into the hotel, queueing up, waiting to check in at the reception because there were so many people trying to check into the same hotel.
"Luckily, Thai Airways have treated us very well. We've been fed, we've had refreshments, obviously we've got accommodation and we've got transport to and from the airport and we are going to be getting onto another flight, we just don't know when."
People commented on the video they posted about the situation to share their own experiences with emergency landings.
One person said: "Omg my parents were on this flight! They’re were coming to meet me, fingers crossed it’s soon."
A second added: "Happened to me once. Flew out of Heathrow and over Bristol the captain came on and said our left engine has failed and we went back to Heathrow. We were 8 hours on the runway.
"American Airlines gave us one can of coke and when we eventually got off the plane it was chaos. I was lucky. I got a flight out the next day. Some people were told they wouldn’t get a flight for 2 days."
A third said: "Hope the rest of your trip has better luck, you’ll be due it after this start."
Thai Airways were approached for comment.
