Bantwal: Police in Bantwal have solved a theft case reported nearly five months ago in which gold jewellery worth several lakhs was stolen from a passenger’s bag inside a bus.


An accused from Madhya Pradesh has been arrested in connection with the case, and the stolen jewellery has been recovered, police said.

Incident details

The incident took place on November 19, 2025, when a couple from Brahmavar were travelling in a Durgamba Bus.


When the bus stopped near ‘Samudra Hotel’ at Kudrebettu, close to Kalladka, the accused allegedly stole gold jewellery weighing about 180 grams from the couple’s bag. The stolen ornaments were estimated to be worth around Rs 20 lakh.


Following the incident, a case was registered at the Bantwal Town Police Station.

Accused arrested

During the investigation, police arrested the accused identified as Samad Khan (37). The stolen jewellery has been recovered from him, and he has been produced before the court.

Police team involved

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Arun K and Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar Bhumareddy.


The investigation was conducted under the direction of Bantwal Assistant Superintendent of Police Yash Kumar Sharma, with Bantwal Town Inspector Ananth Padmanabha leading the team.


Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar Shetty and police personnel Vijay Kumar, Suresh Kumar, Rajesh, Irshad P, Basavaraj, Vijay Kumar and MPCI Revathi were part of the operation. Members of the district police computer unit, Sampath Kumar and Divakar, also assisted in the investigation.
