Delhi. E-commerce company Meesho has received a tax demand notice of about Rs 1,500 crore from the Income Tax Department. The company has decided to challenge this notice. Meesho said in a statement to the stock exchange that it received this notice from the Income Tax Department for the assessment year 2023-24 on March 6. In this, the assessment unit of the department has placed a total tax demand of Rs 1,499.73 crore including interest.
According to regulatory information, this tax demand has been issued on the basis of certain increases and adjustments in the income declared by the company. Meesho said it is reviewing the assessment order and does not agree with the observations and adjustments made therein. The company said, “We believe that the company has sufficient legal and factual grounds to challenge this and are taking necessary steps to protect its interests.”
The company said that a similar tax demand was made for assessment year 2022-23 also. In that case, Karnataka High Court had given interim stay on April 17, 2025 and the matter is still pending. Meesho said the current assessment order and demand notice will not have any material adverse impact on the company’s financial position, operations or other activities.
