Netflix is preparing to drop one of its original series that is regarded as a 'sci-fi masterpiece'.

Initially Orphan Black was a Canadian joint production between Space and BBC America. It was first transmitted between 2013 until 2017.

Netflix acquired the rights for the show's transmission in the UK from its fourth season onwards. The arrangement made it an exclusive for the platform and it even received the treatment as other originals produced by the company.

There are five seasons altogether but time is running out for Netflix subscribers to be able to catch up on all 50 episodes available in total. The streamer now displays a message on the title that confirms the final day to watch via the service will be March 30.

The future of the programme is not yet known. However at the time of writing, audiences can also stream all seasons free of charge on ITVX , reports the Mirror.

That platform does not presently display any information about how long it will remain available on there for.

For those unfamiliar with what the show is about, its synopsis explains that it follows Sarah, who witnesses the death of a woman who looks just like her. She decides to assume the woman's identity.

This includes her boyfriend and money, all in an effort to begin a new life for herself. However, this soon reveals a world of secrets with Sarah now making herself a target and caught up in a deadly conspiracy.

She must battle to survive whilst attempting to break free from the intricate web. As additional threads emerge, Sarah is dragged further in and cannot be certain whom to trust.

Despite nearly a decade having passed since the final episode broadcast, the series remains warmly recalled and championed by devotees. It also holds a 93% rating on website Rotten Tomatoes, with one critic declaring: " Orphan Black is a sci-fi masterpiece. Its cast, story, and world-building are unmatched."

Tatiana Maslany who would later portray She-Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe fronts the series. Her performance is frequently highlighted as reason enough to sample the programme as she delivers numerous remarkable portrayals throughout its duration.

As one enthusiast posted online: "Just wow! Binged all seasons in three weeks, it was so addictive! Hands down THE BEST box set I have ever watched. Tatiana Maslany is amazingly talented, incredible actress to pull this off. I was so worried the ending would be an epic fail like so many others but it was perfect!".

Another added: "One of the best TV shows ever. This masterpiece deserves more reach than any other TV show. Plot - outstanding, lead character - AMAZING, acting - WONDERFUL, thrilling? HELL YEAH! No one can say no to this TV show once they watch a few episodes."

Orphan Black is streaming on Netflix until March 30.
