New Delhi: A 25-year-old man allegedly stabbed his twin sister more than 40 times after spiralling into depression following a breakup. He also attacked his mother inside the house. The police confirmed that the accused fell in love with a woman and, after their breakup, believed his mother and twin sister were responsible for the breakup.

The incident occurred in Buddhi Vihar Colony in Moradabad. The accused is identified as Hardik, and the victim, his twin sister Himshikha, both live in Gurugram. While their mother lives in Moradabad, she works at a health insurance company.

The children usually travel to Moradabad to celebrate Holi, and on Friday, both were preparing to leave for Gurugram. Himshikha and Hardik were alone at home while their mother went to the office.

Hardik suddenly attacked his sister when she was lying on the bed with a knife. He stabbed Himshikha 40 times and left her critically injured on the floor.

The accused then went to his mother’s office and asked her to come home with him on some pretext. Neelima screamed after seeing her daughter lying in a pool of blood. Hardik allegedly attacked his mother too at that moment and stabbed her several times before leaving the place.

The neighbours rushed to the scene after hearing their mother’s echoes. The victims have been taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared Nimshikha dead on arrival and began the treatment of the mother as she remained hospitalised.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving the information and found out that Hardik had been in a relationship with a woman. The Moradabad SP City Ranvijay Singh said that the relationship ended seven months ago, and after that, Hardik spiralled into depression.

Police also talked to the mother in the hospital, and according to Neelima, her son’s behaviour was completely changed after the breakup, as he became short-tempered and believed that her mother and sister were responsible for his breakup.

How did the attack unfold?

During the investigation, police also questioned the accused about how the attack unfolded. Hardik said that his mother and sister tried to console him following the breakup, but at that time, he lost his temper and picked up a big knife from the kitchen and attacked his sister multiple times. He also had the intention to kill his mother too.

The post-mortem report revealed that Hardik stabbed his sister more than 40 times, which led to her death on the spot.
