Some parents are worried that their children do not sleep properly while others feel that their children sleep excessively. But health experts say that adequate sleep is very important for good health. Sleep plays a big role in the mental and physical development of children. Therefore, it is important to understand how much time children of different ages should sleep.


Different sleep requirements according to age


According to experts, children should sleep for different periods of time according to their age. The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) reports that adequate sleep is essential for children’s development. However, a new survey conducted in America has revealed that about 44 percent of children, especially small children, are not able to get the required sleep according to their age. This situation has become a matter of concern for both parents and health experts.


Sleep affects the entire family


Experts believe that children’s sleep is not limited only to children, but it affects the entire family. According to Dr. Laura Starney of John Hopkins University, if the child does not sleep properly, it also affects the daily routine and mental state of the parents. Nearly 80 percent of the parents surveyed admitted that their own sleep and everyday life is also affected due to their child’s poor sleep. At the same time, 86 percent of parents say that when a child sleeps well, his mood and behavior also improves.


Why are sleep problems increasing in children?


According to the survey, sleep problems are increasing in children due to many reasons. About 74 percent of parents spend about two hours a day worrying about whether their child is sleeping properly or not. Many times parents misjudge children’s need for sleep. Especially in the case of children aged 0 to 3 months, about 78 percent of parents make this mistake and make their children sleep about an hour less than required.


Awareness and conversation are also important


The report also revealed that parents are concerned about children’s sleep, but they do not talk much to their children about why good sleep is important. Experts say that it is very important to give children adequate sleep for better health and a balanced life and to make them aware about it.
