Indian Railways Revenue 2026: Indian Railways Freight There has been a significant increase in revenue in the month of February. According to the official data provided by the Railways, the revenue from freight has increased by 2.97 percent year-on-year to Rs 14,571.99 crore in February 2026. In the same month last year, the Railways had earned a revenue of Rs 14,151.96 crore. This information has been revealed from the data released by the Ministry of Railways on Friday.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Railways, not only the revenue but also the volume of freight has increased significantly. Last year’s February cargo movement was 132.48 million tonnes (MT), which has increased by 3.96 percent to 137.72 million tonnes this year. Transport output in Net Ton Kilometers (NTKM) also recorded a growth of 4.18 percent to 76,007 million NTKM.
Major commodities like coal, iron ore, finished steel, fertilisers, cement and container transport accounted for the revenue growth in February. A look at the daily freight statistics reveals the growth as follows:

Fertilizer loading increased by 10.2 per cent to 0.184 metric tonnes, according to the Ministry of Railways. Also, a huge growth of 17.8 percent was recorded in mineral oil and container executive and import (EXIM) traffic. In terms of container traffic, there was an increase of 5.6 percent in imported cargo and 2.3 percent in domestic container traffic.
Overall performance for the current financial year (April 2025 to February 2026) has also been strong. During this 11-month period, Indian Railways has transported a total of 1,503.8 metric tonnes of freight, which is 3.28 percent more than last year. Railways’ total freight revenue during the period was recorded at Rs 1.61 lakh crore, while traffic output increased by 1.62 per cent to 840,000 million NTKM.
