Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presented the 17th consecutive state budget on Friday, announcing several projects and grants for different sectors, including measures to promote the Kannada film industry.

‘Sini Mitra’ online digital system

To simplify approvals for films and other shoots, the government will launch an online platform named ‘Sini Mitra’, allowing multiple department permissions to be granted on a single digital platform.

Karnataka Film Location Digital Map

A digital map of film locations in Karnataka will be developed at a cost of Rs 1 crore, covering tourist spots, historical monuments, and popular shooting locations.

Revival of grants for quality films

The budget announced the resumption of grants for quality films, which had been paused for a few years. For the 2025–26 financial year, films from the past three years will be recognised for grants, with Rs 20 crore allocated to complete the selection process for remaining films.

Mysuru Film City

The government has approved Rs 500 crore for the establishment of a Mysuru Film City. The facility will include a theme park, star hotel, and resorts under a public–private partnership (PPP) model to cater to tourists while supporting film production.

Memorial for Puttanna Kanagal

The former filmmaker Puttanna Kanagal’s residence will be converted into a museum, as announced in the budget.

Upgradation of training and technical facilities

The government will provide modern equipment for sound recording, engineering, and cinematography courses at the Government Film and Television Institute in Hesaraghatta.

Digital Drushya Karnataka

Photographs and video documentaries from across Karnataka will be converted into digital formats and made available on a new platform named ‘Digital Drushya Karnataka’, with Rs 5 crore allocated for the initiative.
