India will contest in the final of ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, after an incredible match against the England team that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, India scored an incredible 253/7, with wicketkeeper Sanju Samson playing a crucial knock of 89, helping India set England a monumental target.

At the halfway mark it was still looking a difficult chase, with the required run rate sitting near 13 from the start, but the match quickly became a classic as England fired back, and it truly looked like Jacob Bethell had steered them to a historic chase with his century, but England ultimately fell short, finishing on 246/7 as 499 runs were scored in total.

Bumrah Turns the Game for India

Bowlers certainly had a big job on their hands in this extremely high-scoring game, but India's main fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah showed his class in a nerveless and intelligent spell:

33/1 was Bumrah's final tally and he certainly deserves a mention with him bowling two outstanding death overs for India, conceding just 14 runs in two overs. His 18th over, in particular, only went for six runs and it certainly put Bethell and the rest of England's batters under a considerable amount of pressure:

The Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav even revealed how the match went right to the wire for him and how he didn't want to take the credit away from England for the excellent chase they gave.

During the post match presentation, Surya said:

"Oh my God! I just told Harry Brook, “How much more do we need to score against you guys?” But honestly, it was a good wicket. The way they batted, I don’t want to take credit away from them. They were always in the game and always in the chase. But the way Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and the other bowlers pulled the game back was unbelievable."

Surya Admits Pressure Ahead of Final

Having secured a place in the final, the match was very special indeed for the team and fans, considering it will be taking place in India. However, it was not without adding more pressure and nerves, says the Indian skipper.

Surya added:

"There will definitely be pressure and nerves, especially playing in India and going for the title. But the boys and the whole support staff are excited as well."

Now India will be looking to continue their current form and win a second T20 World Cup in India.
