Marcus Rashford has been told there must be something wrong if he can’t enjoy his football at Manchester United. Rashford is currently thriving at Barcelona after falling out of favour at United last season.

After joining the Catalan giants on loan during the summer transfer window, the England international has scored 10 times and claimed 13 assists so far this season as his side compete for the La Liga title and Champions League.

Rashford’s career at Old Trafford appeared over when former United boss Ruben Amorim claimed he would rather put his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach on the bench because of what he considered a lack of effort.

He also lost his ‘10’ squad number to Matheus Cunha during the summer. And even though he has enjoyed a resurgence in Spain, that hasn’t stopped United great Bryan Robson from taking aim at the forward - suggesting he could negatively impact his team-mate of he returns to Manchester.

“Marcus Rashford, as a player, I can’t understand it,” he told Boyle Sports. "When you’re at Manchester United and everybody’s saying he’s lost confidence and belief in his own form at the club, and he goes and says he’s starting to enjoy his football again at Aston Villa.

“If you can’t enjoy your football at Manchester United, there’s something wrong with you. I’m just not quite sure whether I'd bring Marcus back in just because the lads could go, 'Well, what about his attitude?'

“At the moment, the club have got Amad, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount, who is a top player when he’s fit. Unfortunately for him, he keeps getting injuries.

“They’ve even got Patrick Dorgu, who has done fantastic and I feel sorry for the lad because he got injured when he was doing great and his confidence was very high. It was unfortunate United lost him.”

Rashford has not played for United since December 2024, and Barca have the chance to sign him for just £26million at the end of the current campaign. But although Rashford has made clear that he wants to move to the Spotify Camp Nou permanently in the summer, Hansi Flick revealed earlier this year that the forward’s long-term future with the Spanish giants remains uncertain.

“(Sporting director) Deco and I always speak about our team and what we can do,” the German said when quizzed about Rashford.

“Marcus’ performances have been really good until now, but we have to manage it. It’s Deco’s job and the club’s job to work on next season, so we have to wait.

“We still have plenty more time, there are many months, many days, many weeks ahead of us, and that’s how it is.”
