It was on Wednesday that the makers of Toxic, starring Yash in the leading role, decided to postpone the film’s release from March 19 to June 4. While this was a result of the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, it has also eventually helped avoid a huge box office clash with Dhurandhar 2, releasing on the same day.

However, Toxic is now clashing with Varun Dhawan’s Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which is slated for a release on June 5. However, reports have it that the makers of that film claim that they weren’t aware of the same.

Toxic to now clash with Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is a romantic comedy starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde. The movie’s release date was announced a few months ago; however, with Toxic picking June 4, this clash is not going to be in VD’s movie's favour, which means the makers are obviously not happy.

Bollywood Hungama quoted a source as saying, “If a film has already locked a release slot and another filmmaker plans to come on the same day, it’s customary to inform the makers who had taken the date first. In this case, that didn’t happen. Varun Dhawan, director David Dhawan and producer Ramesh Taurani learned that Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups was arriving in the same week as their film only after actor Yash posted the news on social media. The team of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is upset. They were caught unawares and are now considering what to do next – should they move or should they stick to the date?”

However, the publication did reveal that the film’s producer hasn’t decided anything yet.

Nonetheless, as it turns out, the makers of Toxic claim that they did let the Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai team know about their intention to change the film’s date in advance.

Toxic makers say everything was transparent

A spokeseperson from KVN Productions states, “When the owner of KVN, Mr Venkat, realised the dates were overlapping, he personally reached out to the makers of Varun’s film, Mr Ramesh Taurani, to avoid any unnecessary friction. Anil Thadani facilitated the conversation, as Toxic makers were clear that they didn’t want the other project to face the kind of uncertainty his film had earlier encountered. The discussion happened well before the official announcement of the new release date, so both teams were completely aware that a clash was on the horizon. It was all handled transparently and cordially.”

Meanwhile, another source explained how the makers of Toxic: A Fairy Tale For Grown-Ups thought of the new release date, “It was distributor Anil Thadani who strongly suggested that the film should arrive on June 4. He said it would be an apt date as by then, the tensions in the Middle East would definitely subside and stop and secondly, the IPL season will come to an end by then. The producers of Toxic and actor Yash found merit in his suggestion, and they decided to go ahead with it.”

As of now, both films are slated for a June release. It’ll be interesting to see how this pans out. Toxic, meanwhile, is directed by Geetu Mohandas, and also features Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi, and Rukmini Vasanth.
