Lorraine Kelly was replaced by a This Morning presenter in a last-minute reshuffle on Thursday (March 5). Near the conclusion of this morning's Good Morning Britain, presenters Kate Garraway and Paul Brand crossed over to the Lorraine studio to preview the upcoming programme.
However, Lorraine wasn't available to provide the preview, with This Morning host Ben Shephard filling in to front the latest instalment of the show. This follows Lorraine experiencing a sore throat earlier in the week, prompting fans to express their worry for the presenter.
Providing an explanation, Ben revealed that Lorraine had entirely lost her voice, leaving her unable to host today's broadcast. "Lorraine's looking a bit rough this morning, if I'm honest. Ben Shephard, what are you doing?" Kate quipped, as she handed over to the Lorraine presenter, reports the Daily Record.
Ben responded: "I'm not 100% sure, Kate, as you know. But what I can tell you is that unfortunately, if you've been watching this week, Lorraine's voice has been getting very bad. It's been getting worse. It finally collapsed last night. She couldn't say a thing, much to Steve's [her husband] delight - just a few squeaks here and there."
He continued: "I've jumped into the hot seat just for today."
Later, as the live broadcast of Lorraine commenced, Ben advised viewers not to "adjust their sets," stating: "Lorraine I'm afraid to say, she's not feeling that well today. But hopefully she'll get well soon. Everyone here is sending their love, Lorraine, wishing you a speedy recovery."
ITV viewers also expressed their good wishes, as well as their pleasure at seeing Ben hosting Lorraine. "Omg how refreshing is it to see @benshephard on #Lorraine!" one individual posted on X (formerly Twitter), with another commenting: "Lovely to see Ben on Lorraine."
Earlier this week, ITV viewers voiced their concern for Lorraine after she presented her show with a noticeably hoarse voice on Tuesday (March 3). Observing that Lorraine was struggling with a sore throat, Susanna Reid remarked: "I have a feeling you might need to ask Dr Amir [Khan] for something for that throat because you sound like you're losing your voice."
"It's terrible," Lorraine then acknowledged, adding: "I know, it sounds awful... It's really strange."
Later during her live broadcast, Lorraine thanked Dr Amir for providing her with a ginger tea, before disclosing: "I'm actually feeling a lot better."
The doctor added: "I think it's worth saying I've done a full examination of your throat and your glands," with Lorraine humorously noting: "[It's] the perks of the job!"
Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1 at 9.30am
