The Punjab government has announced a large-scale initiative to expand digital infrastructure in government schools across the state. According to information shared through official government communication channels, the project involves an investment of approximately ₹400 crore and is aimed at introducing modern technology into classrooms.



The initiative is part of the state’s education programme referred to as Punjab Sikhya Kranti, which focuses on upgrading the infrastructure and learning environment in government-run schools. As part of the digitalisation plan, computer laboratories are expected to be installed in around 5,000 government schools across Punjab. In addition, nearly 3,700 schools are set to receive interactive flat panels that can be used for digital teaching and multimedia-based instruction. Officials indicated that the introduction of such equipment is intended to support technology-based learning methods and provide students with exposure to digital tools that are increasingly used in educational environments.



Interactive flat panels are commonly used in classrooms to display digital content, presentations, and educational software, while computer laboratories can allow students to access computer-based learning and develop basic digital skills. The rollout of digital infrastructure is expected to cover schools located in both urban and rural areas of the state. Government representatives have stated that the objective is to improve access to technology for students studying in public institutions and to create classroom environments that can support modern teaching practices.



The announcement was made during a period when several states across India have been focusing on integrating digital resources into school systems. Technology-based learning tools, including smart boards, digital content platforms, and computer-based instruction, have increasingly become part of public education infrastructure in different regions. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has referred to the initiative as part of broader efforts to upgrade government school facilities in Punjab. According to the information shared, the project is intended to support digital learning and enhance the technological capabilities available in classrooms.



Education experts often note that the effectiveness of digital infrastructure in schools depends not only on equipment but also on teacher training, maintenance of technology, and the integration of digital resources into regular teaching methods. As the project progresses, these aspects may influence how the technology is used in classrooms. The state government has indicated that the installation of equipment and development of digital infrastructure will be carried out across various districts. Once completed, thousands of government schools in Punjab are expected to have access to digital teaching tools and computer-based learning facilities.
