What happened in the Ind vs Eng T20 WC semifinals?

 

In the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final held in Australia, India batted first and posted 168/6. Virat Kohli’s half-century anchored the innings, while Hardik Pandya’s quickfire 63 off 33 balls added momentum. Chris Jordan was England’s standout bowler, claiming three wickets.

 

England’s openers, Alex Hales and Jos Buttler, then led a flawless chase, reaching the target without losing a wicket and finishing with four overs remaining. The defeat was tough for India, and captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged the team needed to reassess its T20 strategies.

 

Fast forward two years to the 2024 semi-final in Guyana, India had an opportunity for redemption. Batting first again, they posted 171/20, with Rohit Sharma scoring 57, Suryakumar Yadav contributing 47, and Hardik Pandya adding a quick 23 from 13 balls.

 

India’s bowlers dominated the English lineup during the chase. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets apiece, while Jasprit Bumrah added two more. England were restricted to just 103, handing India a convincing 68-run win. India then defeated South Africa in the final, securing their second T20 World Cup title.

Two times, but not in recent years. In the historical 1983 Prudential Cup, when India won the trophy for the first time, Kapil Dev's team defeated India by 6 wickets. However, in 1987, their second ever time in South Africa, England won by 35 runs, in a closely fought contest.
