Kokrajhar, March 4: The Governor of Assam, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, has approved an increase in the Executive Council of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), raising its membership from 14 to 17 by adding three Members of the Council Legislative Assembly (MCLAs).

This expansion features the inclusion of Maheswar Basumatary from the No. 30 Goreswar ST Constituency, Karmeswar Roy, a government-nominated member from the Bodoland People's Front, and Lakhi Das from the Bharatiya Janata Party representing the No. 27 Nagrijuli Non-ST Constituency.

As per an official announcement from the Governor’s Secretariat on Wednesday, this decision was made following a request from BTC Chief Executive Member Hagrama Mohilary, submitted on February 27.

The Governor’s Secretariat indicated that the Oath of Office and Secrecy for the three new members will be administered on either March 6 or 7, 2026, in Kokrajhar, adhering to established procedures and formalities.

Shri Mukesh C. Sahu, IAS, who serves as the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam and Principal Secretary to the BTC, has been designated by the Governor to oversee the oath-taking ceremony for the newly appointed Executive Members.

This expansion is anticipated to enhance the administrative capabilities of the BTC Executive Council and improve representation within the Bodoland Territorial Region.
