Former India captain MS Dhoni has been fined Rs 1000 after his vehicle was caught overspeeding in Ranchi. An e-challan was issued under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act after the city’s automated traffic monitoring system recorded the violation near his residence.
According to officials, the surveillance network detected the vehicle exceeding the prescribed speed limit, triggering a digital challan as per Ranchi’s standard enforcement protocol. The penalty has been processed electronically, in line with the city’s integrated traffic management system.
While the offence is categorised as minor under traffic norms, incidents involving the former India skipper invariably attract public attention. The development circulated widely across social media platforms shortly after reports of the challan emerged.

Housing Board Notice Adds to Scrutiny
The traffic fine comes days after the Jharkhand State Housing Board issued a notice to Dhoni regarding alleged misuse of a residential plot in Ranchi. Authorities have raised concerns that the property, allotted strictly for residential use, may have been utilised for commercial activity.
Officials confirmed that the plot is located on Harmu Road, where Dhoni had previously resided before shifting to his current home on Ring Road. The matter remains under review as per housing board regulations.
No official statement has been issued by Dhoni regarding either development.
IPL Preparations Underway
Amid the off-field developments, Dhoni has resumed training ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League season with Chennai Super Kings. The franchise is preparing for the new campaign after finishing at the bottom of the points table in 2025, recording 10 defeats in 14 matches.
Dhoni was retained under the uncapped player rule for Rs 4 crore, a structure that continues into the 2026 season. During the previous edition, he scored 196 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 135.17, primarily contributing in the closing overs.
At 44, Dhoni’s on-field role has evolved, though he remains part of the squad setup as Chennai Super Kings aim to recalibrate following a difficult campaign.
