Gary Neville has claimed that Benjamin Sesko has ‘improved enormously’ after he extended his brilliant run of goalscoring form. The Slovenian striker endured a slow start to the season following his big-money arrival from RB Leipzig.

Sesko scored just two Premier League goals in the first-half of the campaign but has turned his form around under Michael Carrick. He has scored six goals in his last seven league outings - a run that includes the winner against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Speaking about Sesko’s form, Neville has praised the forward for finally finding his feet and overcoming Carrick’s initial doubts.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the United forward said: “Sesko, the confidence, the goals. The finishes by the way that he’s put in, the West Ham [one], the Everton [one]. The goals, they’re four brilliant goals by the way.

“They’re all different. They’re all very different goals. One across the near post, one a header, one is a counter-attack with a side finish at the end. And then the Fulham one is the one on the turn. Where he’s had to turn.

“He’s definitely improved enormously. Michael Carrick never picked him in the team by the way until today. That’s the first time Michael Carrick has started him.

“So he’s obviously had doubts about him in terms of not being right or not being quite there. But what he seems to have done in the four or five weeks whilst having him as a sub is bring him on and then he had an angry celebration against Everton.

“That was a celebration of a guy who was saying ‘you better play me by the way, now’ and he has done and that header today is really good. It’s a proper header that.

“So I think now he's working Sesko into form. That’s a game changer for United. They can’t have another centre-forward coming to the club and failing. They just can’t. They can’t keep bringing players to the club.”

United boss Carrick explained why he decided to start Sesko against Palace and was also full of praise for his in-form forward. He said: "(Starting Sesko) is not a gamble. It wasn't that big of a decision.

“Benjamin is in a good place and he has had a major impact in recent weeks. He's learning what it feels like to play here and to score the winner today is fantastic. We are here to help and I'm sure that will continue. He is willing to do whatever that is."

United and Sesko will be aiming to extend their impressive runs of form next week. The Red Devils travel to Newcastle in midweek ahead of a clash with Aston Villa.
