On hearing the name of Bougainvillea, most of the people think of a beautiful plant with bright orange, white and pink colored flowers. As beautiful as it is to look at, it is equally full of medicinal properties.

Bougainvillea has a special place in Ayurveda. Every part including its flowers, roots and stem is beneficial and effective in providing relief from many problems.

According to the Environment and Forest Department of Bihar Government, this plant is not just for decoration but is also full of medicinal properties. Its flowers, leaves and stem prove to be useful in traditional and Ayurvedic medicine. Bougainvillea belongs to the Nyctaginaceae family. It is seen in gardens, homes and roadsides across the world including India as well as South America. Its brightly colored flowers bloom in red, pink, purple, orange, white and yellow colors, which make it extremely attractive, but along with its beauty, its medicinal benefits are also no less.

The Environment and Forest Department said that various parts of Bougainvillea have been used in traditional medicine. Anti-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties are found in its flowers. Drinking their decoction or tea provides relief from cough, cold and sore throat. The juice or decoction of the leaves is considered beneficial in strengthening the digestive system, relieving constipation and stomach ache.

Its stem and bark are also used. The juice or decoction coming out of the stem is considered helpful in controlling blood sugar. In Ayurvedic texts and folk medicine, Bougainvillea has also been described as effective for inflammation, fever and skin related problems.

The special thing is that Bougainvillea is an easy-growing plant with less water and less care. It grows well in sunlight and remains blooming even in drought.
