New Delhi: India will lock horns with West Indies in a do-or-die Super Eight clash at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, in the T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday, March 01. The stakes will be at an all-time high for both teams, with a spot in the semifinals on the line. The winner will progress to the knockout stage while the loser will bow out of the tournament.

It will be a virtual quarterfinal between the two teams, who have had their highs and lows in the tournament so far. India are heading into the blockbuster clash on the back of a comprehensive 72-run victory against Zimbabwe in their last game. After losing their Super 8 opener against South Africa, India bounced back to winning ways with a dominant show against Zimbabwe.

However, they face a stern test against Shai Hope’s men, who have played some exceptional cricket in the tournament so far. West Indies are currently second in Group 1 of the Super Eights with a net run rate of +1.791 compared to India’s -0.100. India’s net run rate had taken a massive hit after their crushing 76-run loss against South Africa.

India need to beat West Indies to qualify for the semifinals. In case the match gets washed out due to rain, both teams will be awarded a point each, which would mean that West Indies will make it to the semifinals based on their superior net run rate. However, the fans can expect a full contest as there is no rain forecast on Sunday.

South Africa to take on Zimbabwe in a dead rubber

Meanwhile, Aiden Markram’s South Africa will look to continue their winning streak when they take on Zimbabwe in a dead rubber on Sunday. South Africa have already secured a spot in the semifinals courtesy of back-to-back wins against India and West Indies in the Super Eights. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, are out of the tournament after defeats against West Indies and India.

South Africa have been one of the best teams in the tournament so far and will be hoping to continue their dominant run against Sikandar Raza’s men. The match between South Africa and Zimbabwe will be the first of the two on the double-header Sunday. The match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
