New Delhi: 10 people were killed in a massive explosion that erupted in Andhra Pradesh’s Kaknada district on Saturday, February 28. The blast occurred in a fireworks manufacturing unit at around 2 pm in Surya Sri Fire Works in Vetlapalem village in the Kakinada district.
The officials confirmed that the impact of the explosion was so powerful that it sent thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky and ignited a large fire. The incident created panic among villagers.
In the preliminary report, officials confirmed 10 people lost their lives, while eight others were injured. Rescue teams rushed into the site and took the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The identities of the victims are still not disclosed by the officials. The villagers confirmed that the explosion was so loud that it was heard up to five kilometers away.
The bodies of the deceased were thrown into the nearby crop field by the impact of the explosion. The nearby private school building also witnessed some cracks due to the explosion.

The fire department has brought the fire under control with two fire engines, and the local authorities are still in a rescue operation, as workers stated there were more workers present at the time of the explosion.
The exact cause of the incident is still unknown, as the officials began the investigation to determine whether safety norms were adhered to at the firework manufacturing unit or not. They are also investigating how many workers were present on the premises at the time of the incident.
The officials are assessing the scale of damage and casualties as further details are awaited.
