Mumbai Late NCP chief Ajit Pawar and his wife and Maharashtra Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar were given clean chit by the Mumbai special court in the Rs 25,000 crore scam case. Special Judge Mahesh Jadhav has accepted the closure report of Maharashtra Economic Offenses Wing (EOW). In the closure report, EOW has said that the crime against Ajit Pawar and Sunetra Pawar has not been proven in the alleged loan distribution scam of about Rs 25,000 crore in Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (Shikhar Bank).

With the court accepting the closure report of EOW, along with Ajit and Sunetra Pawar, other 70 people have also got relief in this case. The court also rejected the intervention petition filed by ED along with the petitions filed by social activist Anna Hazare and others in this case. This case was going on on the charges of irregularities in loan and recovery to the cooperative sugar mills of Maharashtra. In the year 2019, the Bombay High Court had ordered to register an FIR on the allegations of scam in MSCB and District Cooperative Banks. It was alleged that cooperative banks gave interest-free loans to sugar mills. So that loan accounts can be created in favor of people associated with bank officers and politicians.

In this case, it was also alleged that the companies later sold their sugar mills at very low prices. EOW had investigated three such major transactions after registering the FIR. The EOW has said in the closure report that no criminal irregularities were found in the sanctioning of loans or the sale of Jarandeshwar Cooperative Sugar Mill in Satara and other factories engaged in sugar production. Let us tell you that Ajit Pawar was the Deputy CM of Maharashtra and recently he died in a plane crash while landing in Baramati. After the death of Ajit Pawar, his wife Sunetra Pawar was made the Deputy CM in the Mahayuti government of Maharashtra. NCP has also elected Sunetra Pawar as its national president.
