Health Desk. Sudden tingling or numbness in the hands or feet while sleeping has become a common problem for many people. This is often linked to age, wrong sitting or sleeping posture, but according to experts, it can also be a sign of deficiency of some essential nutrients in your body.
1. Magnesium deficiency
Magnesium is extremely important for the proper functioning of muscles and nerves. Due to its deficiency, the nerves start shrinking and hands and legs start tingling while sleeping. Green leafy vegetables, nuts and whole grains are good sources of magnesium.
2. Calcium deficiency
Calcium is essential for healthy development of bones and muscles. Its deficiency can cause muscle cramps and discomfort in the nerves. Milk, curd and cheese are good sources of calcium.
3. Potassium deficiency
Potassium helps with communication and function of nerves and muscles. Its deficiency can cause tremors, cramps and problems with nerves at night. Bananas, sweet potatoes and papaya are potassium-rich foods.
4. Vitamin B12 deficiency
Vitamin B12 is important for nerve health. Due to its deficiency, complaints of tingling and numbness in the nerves increase. Eggs, meat, milk and cheese are major sources of vitamin B12.
5. Vitamin D deficiency
Vitamin D is essential for calcium absorption and bone health. Its deficiency can cause weakness of nerves and muscles. Getting sunlight and consuming vitamin D rich foods like fish and eggs is beneficial.
