Prepare the dal: First of all, wash the lentils thoroughly and soak them in water for 2-3 hours.
Make paste: Drain the water from the soaked lentils and put it in the grinder. Mix ginger, green chilli, cumin and a little water in it and prepare a smooth batter.
Mix spices: Now take out this batter in a big bowl. Add salt, turmeric and asafoetida in it. The consistency of the batter should neither be too thick nor too thin (like dosa batter).
Add vegetables: If you want, you can add finely chopped onion and coriander in the batter itself or add it on top.
Bake Cheela: Heat a non-stick pan and apply light oil on it. Now put a tablespoon of batter in the center of the pan and spread it round.
Cook on both sides: Cook the cheela on low flame until the edges become slightly crunchy. Apply some oil on top and turn it and cook it from the other side also until it turns golden.
