New Delhi: India’s campaign was over at the ongoing German Open Super 300 tournament after star shuttler Kidambi Srikanth bowed out if the second round. After storming into Round 2 with a flawless performance in the opening round, Srikanth suffered a straight-game defeat against Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chun-Yi in the men’s singles round in Germany.


The 2021 World Championships silver medallist, Srikanth proved to be a no show for Chun-Yi as he went down 14-21, 9-21, putting up no effort in the second game after a bit of hard work in the first one. The contest lasted for merely 32 minutes for the India Open Super 750 champion, marking an end to India’s campaign.

Lin’s one more win against Srikanth

Meanwhile, in their previous meeting at the 2024 Swiss Open, world number 11 Lin had beaten Srikanth and with one more victory under his belt, his record against the Indian shuttler remain intact. Meanwhile, Srikanth made a promising start in the contest on Thursday, leading 9-5 in the opening game before Lin clawed his way back to 12-10 and eventually closed it out comfortably.


After the change of ends, Lin raced to a 7-1 lead and maintained control throughout, leaving Srikanth with little room to recover. The Indian shuttler, after a wonderful start, lost track in the contest, succumbing against his opponents powerful smashes.


Earlier, Tanvi Sharma, Kiran George, and Malvika Bansod bowed out as majority of Indian challenge folded in the first round, with Srikanth being the only one to progress to the second round. Ashwini Bhat and Sikha Gautam had bowed out in the women’s singles round.
