You can now easily change the mobile number on your Aadhaar card from the comfort of your home. UIDAI has launched a new Aadhaar app, allowing users to perform Aadhaar verification, update their mobile number and address, and avail of many essential services. The biggest relief is that you no longer need to visit an Aadhaar center to change your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.

This feature can prove to be very useful for those who have changed their old mobile number, whose SIM has been deactivated, or who were unable to update it due to long queues. Let's explain how you can update your mobile number through the app.

1. First, you need to install the latest version of the Aadhaar app on your Android or iOS phone.

2. Next, open the app and complete the Aadhaar-based login process.

3. Go to the 'Services' section on the home screen and select 'Update Mobile Number'.

4. The app will display your currently registered mobile number. Next, enter the new mobile number you want to link to Aadhaar.

5. An OTP will be sent to the new number. Enter that OTP in the app and verify it.

6. Then, complete the authentication process as per the instructions provided in the app. Once the OTP is successfully verified, your request will be sent to UIDAI.

Note that a service charge of ₹75 will be required to update the mobile number or address. You can make this payment directly within the app. Although the entire process is digital, it may take up to 30 days for the update to be reflected in the Aadhaar record.

Although mobile number and address can now be updated through the app, some changes still require a visit to an Aadhaar enrollment center. For example, biometric updates like fingerprint or iris scans and changes to the date of birth still require a visit.
