Train travel in India is set to become simpler and more streamlined starting March 1, as Indian Railways introduces a major change to its digital ticket booking system. Under the new update, passengers will be required to switch to a single, all-in-one mobile application called RailOne, which will gradually replace the need for using multiple railway-related apps.

This move is aimed at making ticket booking faster, easier, and more convenient for millions of passengers who depend on mobile platforms for daily and long-distance train travel.

One App for All Railway Services

Until now, passengers often relied on different apps for different needs. General and platform tickets were booked through the UTS app, while reserved tickets required logging into Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation platforms. This meant switching between apps, remembering multiple logins, and dealing with fragmented services.

From March 1, the UTS app will be discontinued nationwide, and RailOne will take its place as a unified railway service platform. With RailOne, passengers will be able to:

  • Book unreserved (general) tickets

  • Purchase platform tickets

  • Book reserved tickets

  • Check live train running status

  • Manage journeys in one dashboard

By bringing all these features together, RailOne eliminates the need to juggle multiple applications and significantly reduces confusion for users, especially frequent travellers and daily commuters.

Why Indian Railways Is Making This Change

The launch of RailOne reflects Indian Railways’ broader push toward digital integration and passenger convenience. Over the years, mobile ticketing has grown rapidly, but the lack of a single platform often caused delays and inconvenience.

With RailOne, everything from searching trains to completing payments and accessing tickets happens in one place. This not only saves time but also improves system efficiency and user experience.

Discount for Digital Ticket Payments

To encourage cashless transactions, Indian Railways is offering a discount of up to 3 percent on general tickets booked via RailOne using digital payment methods. This incentive will remain valid until July 14, 2026.

Passengers can pay using multiple options, including:

  • UPI

  • Debit cards

  • Credit cards

  • Net banking

  • R Wallet

Those who already have money in their R Wallet can continue using the same balance within the RailOne app. The focus on digital payments is expected to reduce cash handling at stations and speed up ticket issuance.

How to Get Started with the RailOne App

Using RailOne is designed to be user-friendly, even for first-time users. Passengers can either create a new account or simply link their existing IRCTC login credentials.

Once logged in, the home screen allows users to:

  • Search trains by station, name, or number

  • View available routes and classes

  • Enter passenger details

  • Complete payments securely

After a successful transaction, the ticket is instantly generated and stored within the app. Tickets can be viewed anytime, downloaded as a PDF, or shared digitally when required.

Booking General (Unreserved) Tickets on RailOne

For unreserved travel, passengers need to head to the Journey Planner section and choose the Unreserved Ticket option. Users can manually enter the starting and destination stations or enable GPS to automatically detect their location.

Next steps include selecting the train category—such as mail, express, or superfast—entering the number of passengers, and confirming the journey details. Once payment is completed, the ticket appears in the My Tickets section and can be shown directly on the phone during travel.

What Passengers Should Remember

The introduction of RailOne marks a significant shift toward a more modern, integrated, and digital-first railway system. For passengers, the key takeaway is clear:

From March 1, RailOne will become the primary app for booking both reserved and unreserved train tickets, checking train status, and managing travel needs.

Those who regularly travel by train are advised to download the RailOne app in advance and ensure their login and payment details are updated to avoid last-minute inconvenience.

In short, RailOne simplifies railway ticket booking by replacing multiple apps with one powerful platform—making train travel smoother, faster, and more passenger-friendly across India.
