The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to halt the release of the film Yadav Ji Ki Love Story or order a change to its title, stating that the name does not harm the image of the Yadav community.
A Bench of Justices B.V. Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan dismissed a petition filed by the chief of the Vishwa Yadav Parishad. The petitioner argued that the title could perpetuate harmful stereotypes and damage the reputation of the Yadav community.
However, the Court found no merit in the claim, observing that the title does not include any negative words or portray the community in a derogatory light. The judges deemed the concerns raised in the petition to be unfounded.
The Bench further clarified that this case differed from the earlier Ghooskhor Pandit matter, where the term "ghooskhor" (meaning corrupt) was deemed to carry a negative connotation. In contrast, no such adverse expression was associated with the title of Yadav Ji Ki Love Story, and no restrictions under Article 19(2) of the Constitution were applicable.
The petitioner's counsel also raised concerns about the portrayal of the female lead and the film's claim to be based on a true story. The Court, however, regarded the film as a work of fiction and found no grounds for intervention.
