E-Challan From Toll Plaza: Millions of vehicles pass through expressways and highways across the country every day. The road network has improved, making travel faster and more comfortable. However, regulations have also become stricter. Consequently, if your vehicle's required documents are incomplete or have expired, you could be issued a challan at the toll plaza itself. Let's find out the full details:

Which vehicles will be challaned?

An e-detection system is being implemented on major expressways in Uttar Pradesh. High-resolution cameras have been installed at toll plazas. These cameras will scan the number plates of every vehicle passing through. The vehicle's information will then be matched with a central database.

The system will instantly check whether the vehicle's insurance is valid, whether the pollution certificate (PUC) is up-to-date, whether the fitness certificate has expired, and whether the permit is valid. If any discrepancy is found in any document, the system will automatically issue an e-challan. The entire process is automated, meaning no personnel will need to intervene. The initiative is being implemented initially on major routes and will gradually be implemented on other highways as well.

Now the question is, in which cases will a challan be issued and how much will the fine be?

If the vehicle's insurance is not valid, the challan could be up to ₹2,000.

A fine of up to ₹10,000 could be imposed for not having a pollution certificate.

A penalty of ₹5,000 for the first offense and up to ₹10,000 for a second offense.

In addition, a fine of ₹10,000 is also imposed for driving without a valid permit.

The challan will be registered directly in the vehicle owner's name, and the information will be sent to the registered mobile number. Therefore, it is also important that your vehicle's registration details and mobile number are updated.

What to do?

To avoid any hassle, check all your documents online before traveling. Be sure to check the expiry dates of your insurance, pollution, and fitness cards and renew them on time. Now, simply paying the toll tax won't suffice, as the digital system will capture all the information instantly.

If a challan is issued, it's crucial to pay it on time. Delays may result in additional fees. Therefore, it's best to ensure your vehicle documents are completely accurate and up-to-date before embarking on your journey, ensuring a safe and hassle-free journey.
