Indian equity benchmarks were trading lower in midday deals on February 24, with broad-based selling seen across sectors. As of 12 PM IST, the Nifty 50 stood at 25,465.95, down 247.05 points or 0.96%, while the Sensex was at 82,421.89, lower by 872.77 points or 1.05%.
Weakness in IT and select large-cap counters weighed on the index, with several heavyweight stocks featuring among the top losers.
Tech Mahindra declined 5.4% to ₹1,363.00, marking the steepest fall among the Nifty 50 constituents in midday trade.
HCL Technologies dropped 5.3% to ₹1,350.70.
Eternal slipped 4.7% to ₹255.40.
Infosys fell 3.9% to ₹1,275.20.
Tata Consultancy Services was down 3.4% at ₹2,585.50.
Wipro declined 2.9% to ₹199.90.
Bharti Airtel also slipped 2.9%, trading at ₹1,940.20.
Trent was lower by 1.7% at ₹3,987.30.
Larsen & Toubro fell 1.6% to ₹4,349.00.
Bajaj Auto declined 1.5% to ₹9,760.00.
The decline in IT majors contributed significantly to the Nifty’s losses during the session, as market sentiment remained subdued at midday.
