The compact SUV category continues to generate strong profits for carmakers, with the Tata Nexon currently leading the segment.
Maruti Suzuki is preparing to challenge that dominance with an updated version of the Maruti Brezza, which has recently been spotted during testing, hinting at an upcoming launch.
A camouflaged test vehicle was seen parked in a lot, indicating that a facelifted Brezza is likely on its way.
Even though the SUV was heavily covered, visible changes include a redesigned front grille, updated front bumper styling, and new alloy wheel patterns.
The front bumper now appears to house parking sensors, suggesting added safety tech.
The headlamp design seems to remain the same as the current model.
Inside the cabin, the overall dashboard layout looks largely unchanged compared to the existing Brezza.
However, two key updates stand out: a larger infotainment screen and the introduction of a 6-speed manual transmission.
The current Brezza already offers features such as an electric sunroof, head-up display, 360-degree camera, 9-inch touchscreen, and wireless charging.
The refreshed version is expected to add ventilated front seats, a fully digital instrument cluster, and possibly an ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) package.
The presence of front parking sensors further strengthens expectations of ADAS features being introduced.
The addition of a new gearbox points to potential mechanical revisions under the hood.
The outgoing Brezza is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, whose pricing was impacted by GST 2.0 tax changes.
The facelifted SUV is likely to switch to a smaller 1.2-litre petrol engine, which could benefit from lower taxation and help reduce overall pricing.
This new motor is expected to be the same 1.2-litre Z-series engine currently used in the Maruti Swift and Maruti Dzire.
For the Brezza, a turbocharged version of this 1.2-litre engine may also be offered.
Although final engine details are still unconfirmed, the SUV is certain to feature a new 6-speed manual gearbox.
A 6-speed automatic transmission is also expected as an alternative option.
Additionally, Maruti has revealed plans to introduce hybrid and flex-fuel technologies.
Hybrid and flex-fuel variants of the updated Brezza could follow shortly after its initial launch.
