Delhi Airport Emergency: There was a big commotion at Delhi Airport on Tuesday, when SpiceJet flight SG-121 from Delhi to Leh returned soon after takeoff. There were about 150 passengers on board the flight, but fortunately everyone landed safely. This incident again highlights the seriousness of airline safety and technical emergencies.

What happened on flight SG-121?

According to sources, flight SG-121 took off from Delhi for Leh, but engine number 2 failed just minutes after takeoff. The pilot immediately informed Air Traffic Control (ATC) and returned safely to Delhi Airport. A SpiceJet spokesperson said there was no fire or warning in the cockpit on the flight. The flight had to return only due to technical problem. All passengers were disembarked safely and the airline also arranged onward flights for the affected passengers.

Common causes of engine failure in flights

According to the airline and DGCA, there can be several reasons behind engine failure:

• Mechanical failure: Wear and tear on engine parts or outdated machinery
• Fuel issue: Poor fuel quality or problem in fuel system
• Collision with birds: Collision with birds on runway or during flight
• Aviation Maintenance: No timely check and maintenance
