Lloyds Bank has explained its rules after a customer queried a bill for more than £80 in charges. A person contacted the bank over social media to query some figures.
They mentioned "bank service charge" for Lloyds at £83, comparing this with charges for Monzo of £9. They asked in exasperation for Lloyds to "make it make sense". Lloyds issued a response to set out how its extra charges work.
The bank said: "We understand charges can be frustrating. Our fees depend on the type of account and how it's been used, and they can differ from other banks."
They encouraged the person to get in touch with them if they wanted more help with the matter. Some current accounts with Lloyds come with regular monthly fees that are worth bearing in mind.

Customers may also want to note when they could be hit with surprise extra fees when making transactions. Guidance from Lloyds outlines certain fees that "we can take from all accounts in different circumstances". The advice explains: "When you ask for one of these services, you will be told when we will take the fee from your account."
There is a sizeable £25 fee for organising a CHAPS payment (Clearing House Automated Payment System), which is used for large payments between UK financial institutions, or when you want to be sure an amount is paid on the same day. You will need to arrange this at a Lloyds branch.
You also have to pay fees to send an amount outside the UK or to send an amount in a foreign currency. There is no fee to send an amount in euros, but for any other currency, you will have to pay a £9.50 fee.
There may be extra fees depending on where you are sending the payment to and how you are arranging it. The person receiving the funds may have to pay other fees as well, and there may be fees that both parties have to pay part of.
In contrast, Lloyds could be paying you some cash if you take advantage of an offer from the bank. The provider has a 'Refer a friend' service where you can be paid £50 for referring someone you know to join the group.
You'll need to be signed up the Lloyds app and have a qualifying current account to do this. If you are eligible, if you go into the app you'll find the 'Share link with a friend' button.
Once you've sent this link over, your friend has 30 days to sign up with Lloyds and open a current account. Once this is done, you and your friend will be paid £50 each from Lloyds, within 30 days of them signing up.
You can refer as many people as you want each calendar year, and you can get up to £250 in bonus cash each year through the scheme, the equivalent of referring five people.
