Ranveer Singh is now taking the legal route. The Bollywood actor has approached the Karnataka High Court asking for the criminal case against him to be cancelled. The case was filed after his remarks about the daiva portrayal in Kantara upset a section of people who felt he crossed a line.

According to a News 18 report, in his petition submitted before the court led by Justice M. Nagaprasanna, Ranveer Singh has said his comments were never meant to offend anyone. According to him, he was genuinely appreciative of Rishab Shetty’s performance and the way the character was presented in the film.

What Led To The Ranveer Singh Controversy At 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025?

The whole Ranveer Singh and Kantara controversy kicked off at the closing ceremony of the 56th International Film Festival of India in Goa on November 28, 2025. While appreciating Kantara: Chapter 1 on stage, Ranveer Singh described the sacred Chamundi Daiva as a female ghost and then recreated the intense possession scene from the film. What he may have seen as dramatic appreciation quickly turned into a major backlash.

Reports suggest that even while seated in the audience, he began mimicking the daiva act despite being politely discouraged. On stage, he spoke about being impressed by the scene where the spirit enters the body and then repeated the expression by crossing his eyes and sticking out his tongue. The moment did not land well.

Social media reacted almost instantly. Many users called the act disrespectful and insensitive to the cultural and religious importance of the daiva tradition. For the Tulu community, this is not just cinema. It is faith and identity. Even though Rishab Shetty stayed calm during the event, the awkwardness of the moment was obvious.
