New Delhi: Aston Villa’s Premier League title hopes suffered a big blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Leeds United at home, and Chelsea also dropped points in the top-four race against relegation-bound Burnley on Saturday, February 21.
Chelsea moved to fourth spot in the Premier League standings above Manchester United on goal difference, with the Red Devils scheduled to face Everton on Monday.
Joao Pedro scored the opening goal for the Blues in the fourth minute of the match. But Wesley Fofana received a second yellow card in the 72nd minute, and Burnley equalised in stoppage time through Zian Flemming’s header.
Tammy Abraham netted his first Premier League goal since returning to Aston Villa, salvaging a point in a 1-1 draw against Leeds United. The visitors looked all set to move nine points clear of the relegation zone after Anton Stach’s stunning free-kick gave them the lead in the 31st minute.
The hosts improved their performance in the second half, with Ollie Watkins’ goal disallowed for offside after Emiliano Buendia hit the woodwork, but with just two minutes of the regular time remaining, Abraham scored the equaliser for the hosts.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s midfielder James Milner broke the Premier League record for most appearances in his side’s 2-0 win at Brentford. Diego Gomez scored the opening goal after 30 minutes, and Danny Welbeck netted the second late in the first half.
Five Premier League clubs are set to qualify for next season’s Champions League due to the brilliant performance of English teams in European competition this season. Liverpool and Manchester United have the chance to close in on the Champions League spots when they take on Nottingham Forest and Everton this weekend.
Manchester City can close the gap to within two points of leaders Arsenal when the face Newcastle United at the Etihad. Arsenal will be in action on Sunday when they take on rival Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby.
