Newswise — Following the death of actor James Van Der Beek, who had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer, health experts are urging increased awareness of early-onset colorectal cancer and the lifesaving importance of screening.
Colorectal cancer is now the leading cause of cancer-related death among men and women under age 50, according to a recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Mortality rates have increased 1.1% per year since 2005, moving colorectal cancer from the fifth leading cause of cancer death in the early 1990 s to first in 2023 among younger adults.
