ITV regular guest and full-time GP Dr Amir Khan has received messages of support from fans after sharing a "traumatic thing". The popular daytime telly star often takes to social media to share health advice and personal updates with his fans whom he affectionately refers to as "team".

In a new video on Instagram, Dr Amir faced the camera as he said: "Hey team I'm gonna tell you a story because recently I was giving a talk at my old school about careers and this student asked me what the most traumatic thing ever to have happened to me at a GP surgery.

"It happened a number of years ago. Anyway I was working at one of our branch sites, just me and a receptionist there. But I had a student with me who was sitting in clinic."

Dr Amir explained he was coming to the end of the afternoon surgery when the receptionist asked if he would see a mum who had come in with a child who had a rash. He continued: "I brought them in and immediately I recognised that the child was relatively well and I could see it wasn't a serious rash but I thought I'd use the opportunity to teach this student about rashes."

He began to tell the student what to look for with a rash, such as size, where it is, whether it's raised or flat and whether or not it blanches. Then, from behind him, the student simply said: "Dr Khan, I'm allergic to cats".

Dr Amir continued: "I thought to myself 'what a weird thing to say' but I just carried on. I went 'and you make sure they haven't got a temperature, they're not irritable'. And he said 'no, no, I'm really allergic to cats'.

"I thought 'how weird' but then I recognised that he was breathing really heavily so I turned around to see if he was okay, one hand on this kid, and as I turned round he, like, collapsed. And as he went down he hit the pram that the child had come in with and the pram shot across the room and as it did so a cat which this mum had brought in in the shelf underneath the baby shot out and went underneath the couch."

The student had had a "full anaphylactic reaction", prompting Dr Amir to quickly press the panic button under his desk. He added: "The receptionist came in, but she didn't see him on the floor and tripped over him."

After helping her up, Dr Amir told the receptionist to get a crash trolley. Dr Amir said: "We had to give him adrenaline. I had to hand this baby back to mum I said 'look she's fine, don't worry, off you go bye'. Ambulance came, took student away, and then I was like... 'have we found the cat?' We didn't find the cat

"But thankfully everyone - baby, mum, receptionist, this student - everybody was okay. But, my god, the drama."

Fans are clearly loving the anecdote, with many rushing to the post's comments section to have their say. One wrote: "Hilarious! I’m sure this could only happen to you".

A second said: "OMG!! Absolutely love this story!!! It’s the best! Proper drama" and a third added: "Oh my goodness what a crazy sequence of events Dr Amir with a happy ending".
