New Delhi: A Sikh man allegedly been kidnapped from a gurdwara complex in Tracy, California, prompting an investigation by local authorities. The incident has raised concern within the Sikh community in the area.

The victim has been identified as Avtar Singh, who has been serving as a langari at the Gurdwara Sahib for the past few years. He was reportedly living within the gurdwara premises. The gurdwara is said to be run by Guru Nanak Prakash Damdami Taksal.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation into the incident. As per the statement posted by the Sheriff’s Office, the case came to light after a missing person report was filed on February 17 at around 8:52 pm. Deputies responded to the 16000 block West of Grant Line Road in Tracy following the complaint.

Surveillance footage shows forced abduction

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said that during the investigation, surveillance footage was reviewed. The video reportedly showed Singh inside a white SUV at around 2.30 pm earlier that day.

Authorities have revealed that three unidentified individuals dressed in dark clothing were seen in the footage. Investigators believe Singh was forced into the vehicle against his will. A photograph of the victim has been released as part of the ongoing probe.

In a public statement, the Sheriff’s Office said detectives are actively investigating the matter and based on the information available so far, officials have described the incident as isolated and said there is no immediate threat to the wider community.

The development has sparked anxiety among local residents, especially members of the Sikh community, who are closely following updates. Police have not yet disclosed any information about possible suspects or motives.
