Speaking of the match, on the back of Brian Bennett’s half-century and skipper Sikandar Raza’s knock of 45, Zimbabwe beat Sri Lanka by six wickets on Thursday to enter the Super Eight of the T20 World Cup as the group’s top team, also unbeaten. Chasing a target of 179 for victory on a tough pitch, Zimbabwe scored 182 for four in 19.3 overs. Bennett remained unbeaten on 63 off 48 balls and Raza remained unbeaten on 45 off 26 balls.



Both teams have progressed from Group B to the Super Eight stage and Zimbabwe surprised everyone by beating Australia in the league stage. Zimbabwe scored 55 not out in the Powerplay. Opener Bennett and Tadi Marumani (34 off 26 balls) got the team off to a good start and put on a 69-run partnership for the first wicket in 8.3 overs. Marumani was dismissed by Dunith Velage with a return catch. Ryan Burl scored 23 off 12 balls and then Dasun Shanaka got his wicket. Raza and Bennett then took over.


Raza hit Dilshan Madushanka for two consecutive sixes in the 15th over. In the next over, he hit spinner Mahesh Thikshan for a six and a four. Raza was dismissed by Dushan Himanta in the 19th over and Tashinga Musekiwa was also dismissed two balls later.
