It's well known that Wuthering Heights is set amidst the stunning Yorkshire countryside, and so it was only fitting that the latest adaptation returned to the homeland of the classic novel for filming.

Emily Brontë's novel primarily unfolds in the Yorkshire Moors, near her own home, but this cinematic rendition of the intense love story takes place in the Yorkshire Dales. Indeed, one particular Dale steals the limelight, featuring prominently throughout the film.

Fans eager to incorporate the world of Wuthering Heights into their 2026 travel itinerary will find Swaledale the perfect spot for immersion. From the initial glimpses of the film to some of its most dramatic moments, the backdrop of this dale arguably assumes the starring role.

One of the key filming locations within Swaledale is the ruins visible throughout the film. These ruins are actually remnants of Yorkshire's early 19th-century lead mining industry, complete with towering chimneys open for public exploration.

At the film's outset, as a horse-drawn carriage traverses the verdant fields, the Old Gang Smelt Mill can be seen in the background.

It also features in other scenes, when leading actors Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi wander through the foggy moors.

A short distance from the Old Gang location lies Bouldershaw Lane, a winding route nestled in the moorland above Langwaite village. This spot features prominently in the film during a striking sequence where Robbie appears in an elaborate wedding gown.

The scene showing her marching determinedly across an open field, clutching a bouquet whilst clad in a white veil and dress, was filmed in the field opposite the lane.

Whilst the land is privately owned, it's visible from the road, and countless walkers pass by it unknowingly whilst completing the circular route from Surrender Bridge around Reeth High Moor.

A brief journey from Swaledale brings you to an impressive hall and estate, reportedly used to house the Hollywood stars and director Emerald Fennell throughout filming.

The property's owners have revealed both cast and crew rehearsed their lines here during the day and filmed post-production interviews on the premises.

Proprietor Jake Dinsdale told Condé Nast Traveller: "They had some great meals together, a Sunday roast. We did some walks with them, and they enjoyed the outdoor fire pits on our terrace late into the night, chatting and laughing...they really enjoyed those and having a flavour of the countryside."

Also located within Yorkshire Dales National Park is Melbecks Moor, which served as the setting for numerous stunning scenes featured in the film.

One of the locations where viewers glimpse the characters roaming through fields is believed to be along this stretch, as it represented an exceptionally isolated spot in upper Swaledale.

The landscape is peppered with numerous derelict structures and abandoned tracks from an era when it thrived as a lead mining centre, with one of these ruins also serving as a filming location.

The National Park's communications manager, Mark Sadler, described how these settings were enhanced for the production using special effects and props.

He explained the terrain is essentially "open moorland", situated more than five miles away. He also noted that, in keeping with preserving the landscape's natural character, the cast and crew had to accept that rather substantial treks into "very, very remote moorland" were necessary, with absolutely nothing else around.
