Arsenal became the first Premier League leaders ever to blow a two-goal lead against a side in the relegation zone after their late capitulation against Wolves at Molineux.

Mikel Arteta's men were two goals to the good against their doomed opponents, who are rock bottom of the league having won just once all season. But late goals from Hugo Bueno and Tom Edozie - the latter coming in stoppage time - stunned Arsenal at Molineux.

Arsenal's slip-up against their struggling hosts was a Premier League first with no other league leader dropping points against a team in the relegation zone after being two goals up.

The worst news for Arsenal, though, is that the result has blown the title race wide open, with Manchester City now able to close the gap between the two sides to just two points with a win at the weekend.

City have pipped Arsenal to the title in two of the last three seasons and have form for clicking into gear during the latter stages of the season.

And with the pressure on Arsenal growing week by week, Arteta couldn't hide his frustration after watching his team blow the perfect opportunity to extend their advantage over City.

Speaking to Match of the Day after Wednesday night's game, Arteta said: “Incredibly disappointed that we gave two points away. I think we need to fault ourselves and give credit to Wolves. But what we did in the second half was nowhere near the standard that we have to play in order to win a game in the Premier League.

“There are certain things, certain basics that today we were very far from our level, and when you don't perform you can get punished, and we got punished. We have to accept the hits because that can happen when you are on top.

“There are certain basics we have to do and we did them so poorly, one after the other. And then you have no dominance, no control in the game.”
