New Delhi: Several flights faced disruptions across India as a major server error occurred in Navitaire, the software used for bookings and check-ins. The airports where delays occurred include Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. The glitch was reported on February 18 morning.
The technical issue lasted for 43 minutes, said a report in Times Now. According to officials, the server stopped working at around 6:45 am in the morning and this continued till 7:28 am. Because of this, check-in and boarding systems were impacted, they added.
According to the news report, the flights of IndiGo, Akasa Air, SpiceJet and Air India Express were impacted due to this server error. In Delhi flight disruptions led to chaotic scenes as passengers crowded at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Similar scenes unfolded at other airports across India.
Talking about Delhi, several passengers complained that the check-in counters were not working properly. Long queues were seen at the airport as staff had to manually check-in passengers. Several passengers also claimed that the service was tardy and confusion prevailed. Some even claimed to have missed their flights.
The situation caused panic and discomfort at the airport.
Officials at the Delhi Airport claimed that the system was fixed by 8:25 am. They said, “The system got fully restored. Normal operations currently in place.”
Navitaire is a global airline technology company. It provides software which airlines use for booking, reservations, check-ins and also boarding. If there are problems with the software, airlines cannot check-in passengers easily and have to switch to manual mode of check-in. This causes considerable delays.
