New Delhi: Several instances of senior citizens falling prey to fraudsters often come to the fore. On a regular basis, banks issue advisories for customers with an aim to educate them about the digital and other scams. Bank of Baroda (BOB) has issued an advisory for its customers, including senior citizens, pensioner customers as well as its former employees, asking them to stay cautious of fraudulent messages received via phone, WhatsApp, or SMS. The government-owned lender has also shared information about common fraud methods and also listed ways to protect oneself from cybercrime.
“Bank of Baroda urges customers, especially senior citizens and pensioners, to remain vigilant against fraudulent messages and fake “Pensioner Card” offers circulating online.
Please verify any such communication only through official Bank of Baroda channels or by visiting your nearest branch,” BoB’s message read.
The bank said there has been a recent increase in digital fraud incidents, especially targeting pensioners and senior citizens. Fake messages and images to a so-called “Pensioner Card” are being circulated on social media and WhatsApp.
The lender alerted its customers by stating that Bank of Baroda has NOT issued any new Pensioner Card through social media or links Any Pensioner Card or offer circulating on the internet is NOT authorised by the Bank.
