Bank Holiday Due to Losar Festival
According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, banks will be closed tomorrow, February 18th. This holiday is for the auspicious occasion of Losar (Tibetan New Year). This festival is of immense cultural significance, which is why bank branches are closed across the region.
Only customers in this state will be affected.
It's important to note that this bank holiday is not nationwide. Banks will be closed only in Sikkim on February 18th. Apart from Sikkim, banking operations will continue as normal in all other states and union territories (such as Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, etc.).
How will essential work be carried out amid closed branches?
Residents of Sikkim need not worry. Even though physical bank branches are closed, the doors of digital banking are always open:
You can make money transfers (NEFT/RTGS/IMPS) 24 hours a day.
Payments made through Google Pay, PhonePe, or other apps will remain uninterrupted.
ATMs can be used as usual to withdraw cash or view mini statements.
