Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were blasted by fans after paparazzi spotted them at a not-so-secret Valentine's date on Friday. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were pictured leaving Funke, a well-known restaurant in Beverly Hills, on Friday evening.
Harry and Meghan were seen smiling as they left the celebrity hotspot, described as one of their "favourites" in the area. The pictures were taken by Backgrid, a celebrity photo agency closely associated with the Sussexes and obtained by People magazine, an outlet also associated with favourable coverage of them. But fans criticised the couple, calling them "hypocrites," and accused them of the candid shots not being so candid after all.
One user wrote on X: "I wonder how Backgrid knew they were there?"
Another one replied: "Meg's tipped them off of course..We all know that by now. No surprise BUT expected."
A third one opined: "We all know how they knew. Same reason they just happen to show up everywhere else these two go. Meg's got them on speed dial."
A fourth one said: "Mr Mischief & Mrs Misery tipped off Backgrid."
A fifth one took a swipe at Prince Harry's 2019 comments about being photographed and how it always reminds him of his mother, Princess Diana's death in 1997.
They commented: "Prince Harry said, 'Every single time I see a camera, every single time I hear a click, every single time I see a flash, it takes me straight back," ***seems ok here, when suits him."

Two people called them out for being "hypocrites" with one user writing: "These 2 clowns are such fake grifting hypocrites. They can't even keep their stories straight."
Another one agreed: "Absolute hypocrisy."
Meanwhile, another user said: "Hmmm, gosh it's so scary how Backgrid always seems to find her & when she so happens to be smiling for no reason. It's almost like someone from their 'inner circle' has Backgrid on speed dial....I wonder who it could be??"
Finally, another one added: "It was only a month ago that Harry was crying in court that the press made Megan's life a living hell but here she is beaming as she gets popped by the photographers. 5+ years later and her words don't match her actions."
Others were delighted to see the couple enjoying quality time with each other, with one fan writing on Instagram: "My favorite couple of all time was out [on a] Valentine's day date."
The Duke and Duchess were contacted for comment.
On Valentine's Day, Meghan posted an image of Harry and Princess Lilibet on her Instagram account to mark the day of the year reserved for lovers across the globe.
She captioned it: "These two + Archie = my forever Valentines" and a heart emoji.
