New Delhi: A 22-year-old Indian student, Saketh Sreenivasaiah who had gone missing on February 9, from University of California Berkeley has been found dead. The body was recovered from California itself. The student hailed from Karnataka and was pursuing a Chemical and Biomolecular engineering at University of California Berkeley.

Indian Consulate confirms recovery of body

On Sunday, the Indian Consulate in San Francisco confirmed the recovery of Sreenivasaiah’s body. In a statement posted on social media platform, ‘X’ they said, “The Consulate deeply regrets to inform that local police have confirmed the recovery of the body of the missing Indian student, Saketh Sreenivasaiah. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this profoundly difficult time.”

Just a day earlier the Consulate had put out a post regarding the disappearance of the Indian student. They had expressed concerns regarding his whereabouts and said that they were in touch with the authorities in California, who were trying to locate the student.

Following the recovery of Sreenivasaiah’s body, the Consulate expressed deep sorrow. They extended their condolences to the family of the victim and promised them all help in repatriation of his body to India at the earliest.

Police searched around Lake Anza and Berkeley Hills

According to a report in NDTV, the local police launched a search around Lake Anza and Berkeley Hills after Sreenivasaiah went missing after being seen around 1 kilometre away from the University Campus.

Later a bag was recovered with his passport and laptop from near a residential area, close to the Tilden Regional Park. Community members took to online platforms, to help search for the missing Berkeley student.

Sreenivasaiah was a graduate from IIT Madras and hailed from Karnataka in India. He had completed his schooling from Bengaluru’s Sri Vani Education Centre. The online forum set up to search for him, described him as 6 feet 1 inches tall, weighing around 160 pounds and having short hair and brown eyes.
