Arsenal have already booked one trip to Wembley - but Christian Norgaard still fancies securing another.

The Dane, who has found minutes hard to come by at the Emirates since sealing an initial £10million summer transfer from Brentford, is relishing the return of FA Cup action after assisting in last month's third-round rout at Portsmouth.

When asked if the collective target is another showpiece final this season, Norgaard said enthusiastically ahead of Sunday's home tie against Wigan Athletic: "Yeah, absolutely. That would be amazing.

"We want to fire on all cylinders in every competition and with this depth we have in the squad right now it is possible. But that takes a lot of focus, concentration and respect for these kinds of games."

Arsenal now briefly put the intensity of their Premier League title charge to one side following Thursday's pulsating 1-1 draw at Brentford.

The level-headed versatile midfielder refutes any suggestion the Gunners are relishing a break from the spotlight this weekend, adding: "I think there are still so many positives for us to talk about when it comes to the Premier League. We are in an amazing situation.

"But we spoke about it before, the cup games are fantastic as well. An FA Cup game at home is going to be amazing, so hopefully we can also progress in that tournament."

Mikel Arteta, who won the FA Cup twice as an Arsenal player before later lifting the trophy in 2020 during his first season as manager, will be under no illusions that nobody is safe from a giant-killing in this illustrious competition.

Back in February 2018 when he was Pep Guardiola's assistant, Arteta was on the receiving end of a major cupset when Wigan eliminated Manchester City.

Norgaard is adamant there can be no complacency against the Latics, explaining: "Mindset is very important.

"We have seen it all already this season, where there have been games that we have gone in as huge favourites and still had difficulties getting into the game. So this game demands a lot of respect, just like any other."

The Denmark international and former Brentford captain will be crucial to instilling that message not only in the dressing room but also on the pitch.

That won't be a problem though because earlier this week, Leandro Trossard lavished Norgaard in praise and claimed he was an integral standard-setter - despite only starting seven matches in all competitions so far this season.

The flattered 31-year-old replied in response to his team-mate: "Of course, that is always nice to hear from a player of his calibre.

"It started a few years back, when I was at Brentford. I do it more for myself and if people follow it, or look at it, that’s amazing.

"Hopefully, I can help players start doing these things at a younger age. That would have definitely benefited me if I had started earlier."

For all of Norgaard's experience, he doesn't have many FA Cup memories and does not recall the League One outfit winning the competition back in 2013 when they beat Man City courtesy of Ben Watson's epic header.

He said: "No, I don’t [remember it] unfortunately. It’s good you’ve said it, as now I can read about it!

"It’s a tough competition. I don’t remember too much of it from when I was young - it was more the Denmark and Spanish leagues.

"But I know it is a historic tournament, and hopefully we are going to go far in it."
