New Delhi, 14 February. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has prepared a major change in Aadhaar card to prevent misuse. According to media reports, only the cardholder’s photo and a QR code will be visible in the updated Aadhaar card. The move is aimed at preventing misuse of photocopies of Aadhaar cards, which contain sensitive personal information. It is being told that preparations for this big change have been going on since last year.
On Aadhaar only the photo of the cardholder and a QR code will appear
It is noteworthy that UIDAI has recently launched the full version of its new Aadhaar app. This app provides many such services to the cardholders, for which earlier they had to go to the Aadhaar center. Users can now update their mobile number, address and other details directly through the app. It also helps cardholders to lock and unlock their Aadhaar biometrics with a single click.
New rules are being made to prevent misuse of Aadhaar through photocopying.
UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar confirmed during an online conference that new rules are being made to prevent misuse of Aadhaar cards through photocopying.
Aadhar card has become an important document for Indian people. It is required to open a bank account, buy a SIM card and avail the benefits of government schemes. Currently, cardholders submit a photocopy of their Aadhaar card for such services. These copies contain Aadhaar number, name, address, date of birth and other information, which can be misused.
To address this concern, a proposal is being considered to include only the cardholder’s photo and QR code on the physical Aadhaar card. With this, the card will be able to work like a photo identity card and sensitive information will remain safe.
For secure access QR Code-Based Verification
Under the proposed changes, scanning the QR code on the Aadhaar card will allow verification for services like banking, SIM issuance and government schemes. This system is expected to increase privacy and reduce the risk of misuse. Reports about this possible rule surfaced in December last year, although it has not yet been implemented.
The new Aadhaar app already displays a QR code with the cardholder’s photo after login, while other personal details remain hidden. Without logging into the app, the cardholder’s information is not visible.
