Mumbai: In the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) and Columbia University in the US launched the Center for Artificial Intelligence for the Manufacturing Sector (AI Center) signed a cooperation agreement to set up. The Ministry of Education has so far launched four separate AI centers and this will be the fifth, IIT Bombay said in a statement here saying the agreement was signed by IIT Bombay Director Professor Shirish Kedare and Columbia University Senior Provost Professor Souleyman Kachani. Minister of State for Education Dr. Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Higher Education Secretary. Vineet Joshi, Secretary School Education and Literacy Sanjay Kumar and Secretary Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology S. Krishnan, along with professors from IIT Bombay and Columbia University were present.
IIT Mumbai Director Professor Shirish Kedare said the Columbia IIT Bombay AI Center is an important step towards strengthening India’s manufacturing ecosystem through advanced, human-centric AI. This new AI center will focus on all sectors of manufacturing in the country, including semiconductors, robotics, industrial manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, food processing, refining and process industries including petrochemicals, construction and infrastructure development as well as transport and logistics.
IIT Bombay and Columbia University have signed a collaboration agreement to set up an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Center for the Manufacturing Sector. The center is considered to be an important step in strengthening India’s manufacturing ecosystem and will focus on industrial modernization by building state-of-the-art AI infrastructure, promoting MSMEs and startups, and building skilled manpower for the future. The new AI center will focus on various manufacturing sectors such as semiconductors, robotics, industrial manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, food processing, petrochemicals, construction, infrastructure as well as transportation and logistics.
