Afghanistan’s senior all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) following his team’s dramatic defeat against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2026. The ICC imposed a fine of 15 percent of Nabi’s match fee for breaching the code of conduct during the high-voltage encounter on February 11.

According to the ICC, Mohammad Nabi was found guilty of violating Article 2.4 of the Code of Conduct, which deals with inappropriate behavior or dissent towards match officials. The incident occurred during the 14th over of Afghanistan’s innings, when Nabi had an on-field disagreement with the umpire. The dispute reportedly arose over Nabi’s objection to South African pacer Lungi Ngidi wearing a band while bowling.

The Afghanistan vs South Africa match turned out to be one of the most thrilling contests in T20 World Cup history. The game ended in a tie, with both teams scoring 187 runs in their allotted 20 overs. The excitement continued into the Super Over, where the first Super Over also ended in a tie at 17 runs apiece.

For the first time in T20 World Cup history, a match went into a second Super Over. The nail-biting contest was finally decided on the last ball of the second Super Over, with South Africa emerging victorious.

Despite the fine, Mohammad Nabi remains a key figure in Afghanistan’s campaign, though the incident has added to the talking points from an already unforgettable match.
